Throughout the life of your Berger Blanc Suisse puppy, he will go through many changes and stages of development. Once he leaves Dances with Wolves Ranch and gets older, his energy levels and personality will evolve. Each breed is different in terms of energy, curiosity and sociableness. Even individuals within the same White Swiss Shepherd breed can be very different. However, here is a rough outline of how your puppy will develop as they age.
Puppy Energy Level by Age
Up until puppies are 10 weeks they are kind of like babies. They are filled with curiosity and have endless energy to investigate their surroundings. However, their attention span is very short, and they can only focus on something for less than 10 or 15 minutes at a time.
From 10 weeks to 16 weeks your puppy is playful and starting to develop a longer attention span, which is perfect to begin training your puppy. They are starting to test boundaries and may begin a chewing stage as they’re teething. You’ll want to be playful and fun during exercise/play time but also stern about them being obedient and following your house rules.
From 4 to 6 months your Berger Blanc Suisse puppy might start to want to play with other dogs. Puppies may growl and engage in play fighting, which is normal at this age. He could also start to demonstrate some fear. This is a time where you should ignore behaviors such as whining or being fearful and only encourage behaviors such as calm obedience and confidence.
From 6 to 12 months your puppy starts to get bigger and may look like an adult, but he still has the mind of a puppy. He will still have a great deal of energy and will need a lot of play and exercise to work both his mind and body. Training and socialization are essential at this age.
From 1 to 2 years old your Berger Blanc Suisse puppy is coming into adulthood and growing into his body. He will begin to act calmer and more mature. Your dog may still be playful but will now be better at obeying the rules. His attention span will be longer for training and he should have more confidence in new situations from months of socialization.
